Pugh’s Flowers was started in 1976 by Bill Pugh and his partner. Over the past 40 years, Pugh’s Flowers has grown into one of the premier flower shops in the country. The flower shop is currently owned and operated by Tim, Michael and Mark. Bill Pugh’s three sons. We operate three retail flower shops in Memphis, and another in Southaven, Mississippi. Along with our floral design business, the brothers also operate Pugh’s Earthworks, Rosie’s Pest Control and a new business that will be opening soon, called Pugh’s Lawn.

Actively Taking the Lead in the Florist Industry – All the Way to Washington
This week's post comes from Michael Pugh, Owner of Pugh's Flowers: Operating a florist business in Memphis is more than just a job; it’s a true passion and commitment that I have made as has my family done for decades. We have an obligation to the communities we serve to provide the best quality, value, and service possible. I take being part of the florist industry seriously and enjoy the insights and networking I have with other florists that share my philosophy. Together, we have helped to elevate the standard of quality and service within our industry, proving that more can be accomplished when we work together. While you may not realize it, the florist industry is impacted in many ways by what happens in Washington. These regulatory changes then influence what we can provide for you, our customers. With changes in administration, it’s never been a more important time to get involved and take a stand for the floral industry. That’s why I participated in the Congressional Action Days last year and plan to do the same again. That’s why I participated in the Congressional Action Days last year and plan to do the same again. While I was nervous about meeting with members of Congress since I was no expert on policy, it turned out to be easier than I thought. The great conversations I had were beneficial for speaking out on behalf of all florists and in helping me gain a new understanding of the legislation and how it will affect my flower shops here in Memphis. This year, I plan to attend the Congressional Action Days again now with more confidence and insight on what I can accomplish. I will travel to Washington, D.C. for this event, which will be held March 13-14, 2017. Celebrating Green Plants on Houseplant Appreciation Day on January 10th
Here in Memphis, we love our green plants and are excited to celebrate Houseplant Appreciation Day today! On January 10th every year, the green plant is celebrate in all of its glory, including blooming plants like orchids and violets as well as other green plants that offer a range of color and texture to their leaves. In honor of houseplants, we have put together some highlights from our Plant Care guide located on our website. Here are some of the various types of houseplants you may see or have along with some tips on ensuring they have a long and happy life in your home or office: African violets provide a beautiful bloom of purple flowers. As a houseplant, they prefer no direct sunlight and moist soil with good drainage. They like moderately warm temperatures and prefer fertilizer made specifically for them. Azaleas like diffused light and cooler temperatures as both conditions help them keep their blooms for a longer period of time. Direct sunlight will burn their foliage and encourage disease so give them the shade they enjoy. Begonia also like diffused light without having direct sun. They like moderately moist soil and temperatures. An all-purpose fertilizer will keep them happy. They require trimming to maintain a compact look. Peace lilies work well in low light, providing many blooms throughout the year. Keep soil moist along with moderate temperatures and a regular fertilizing schedule using general green plant fertilizer mixed with some organic matter. Green foliage plants are a broad category of houseplant and include dracaena, rubber plants, ficus, pothos and more. They like bright indirect light, moderate moisture, and good drainage. With Graceland just down the street from one of our Memphis flower shops, Elvis Presley seems to always be on our minds. However, he is never more so on our minds than on January 8th because that’s his birthday. Many of Elvis Presley’s fans come to visit Graceland on this day so it gave us the idea to come up with a special flower arrangement dedicated to the King.
